Namibia is renowned for its wide open spaces, its spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The Desert Express schedule has been designed to allow passengers to take in all of these. Guests can relax and mingle in the popular Spitzkoppe Lounge, which like the entire train, is fully air-conditioned. The Lounge is divided into a smoking and non-smoking section, and a full bar service is offered on board, which includes specialty drinks and aptly named cocktails. A unique chess table where black and white squares have been made from the sand of the Namib desert is also located in the Spitzkoppe Lounge. The Lounge opens at 06h00 in the morning, when the early risers are welcome to enjoy a cup of freshly-brewed coffee.

Dinner and breakfast are served in the Welwitschia Restaurant, the coach adjacent to the Lounge. The overhead lights in this coach are something special - sandblasted glass panels depicting animal footprints in mud. A three course dinner, with a selection from three starters, main courses and desserts are prepared in the adjacent kitchen by our chefs.
